Nobel Institute says Peace Prize not transferable after Machado remarks

(MENAFN) The Norwegian Nobel Institute has confirmed that the Nobel Peace Prize cannot be transferred, addressing comments by Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who suggested she might give her 2025 award to US President Donald Trump.

“The facts are clear and well established. Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time,” the committee said.

Machado received the prize for her efforts to defend democratic rights and promote a peaceful transition from authoritarian rule to democracy in Venezuela. She told reporters that giving the prize to Trump would show gratitude for the US military operation on January 3 that captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.

When asked whether he would accept such a gesture, Trump said, "I've heard that she wants to do that. That to be a great honor."

The committee’s statement emphasizes that Nobel Prizes are permanent awards and cannot be reassigned or handed over, regardless of any subsequent proposals by laureates.
