Minimum of thirty people get detained following protests against ICE

(MENAFN) The Norwegian Nobel Institute has clarified that the Nobel Peace Prize cannot be transferred, following comments by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who suggested she might give her 2025 award to US President Donald Trump.

“The facts are clear and well established. Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time,” the Institute said on Friday.

Machado received the prize for her work defending democratic rights and promoting a peaceful transition from authoritarian rule to democracy in Venezuela.

During an interview, Machado said that giving the prize to Trump would be a gesture of gratitude from Venezuelans for the US military operation in their country.

The US carried out a January 3 mission that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

"I've heard that she wants to do that. That to be a great honor," Trump said when asked whether he would accept the prize if Machado decided to hand it to him.
