Ukraine, Norway Partner to Manufacture Military Drones

(MENAFN) Ukraine and Norway have reached an agreement to collaboratively manufacture military drones, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denis Shmigal announced on Monday, describing the arrangement as a significant victory for his nation.

In response to attacks within Russia, Russian forces have increasingly focused on striking Ukrainian military manufacturing sites.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops have faced difficulties on the battlefield, where Russian forces have achieved notable gains in recent weeks, aided in part by superior drone capabilities.

“Ukraine and Norway will jointly produce Ukrainian drones. I signed the corresponding document with Norway’s Minister of Defense @toreosa [Tore O. Sandvik],” Shmigal shared on X.

The Ukrainian minister revealed that a pilot production line is planned to be launched promptly in 2026, with efforts underway “to further expand capacity.” He did not indicate whether the production site would be situated in Ukraine or Norway.

Moscow has repeatedly criticized Western military support for Ukraine, asserting that it only prolongs the conflict without changing its outcome. At the same time, Russian officials claimed that their military production now surpasses that of any other nation.

“We are supplying aircraft, tanks, infantry vehicles, howitzers, electronic warfare systems, drones and much more in enormous quantities,” Sergey Chemezov, the head of the state-owned defense corporation Rostec, told a news agency last week.

“No country in the world today produces as many shells and aerial bombs.”
