Norway Sanctions Two Russian Companies Over Security Threat
"Recently we have seen increasingly aggressive Russian hybrid campaigns against allied nations. This trend is expected to continue," Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated on Monday.
According to Eide, the companies—Norebo JSC and Murman Seafood—are implicated in Russian intelligence operations that jeopardize maritime security for both Norway and its allies.
"Such activity may facilitate future sabotage operations and threaten important Norwegian security policy interests," he added.
As part of the sanctions, the Norwegian government will freeze the companies' assets, prohibit their vessels from accessing Norwegian ports or waters, and deny them fishing licenses within Norway’s exclusive economic zone.
These sanctions will be formally incorporated into Norwegian law in the coming days, underscoring Oslo's intent to work in lockstep with the EU and allied nations to defend critical infrastructure.
The action mirrors measures introduced by the EU on May 20, which targeted organizations connected to Russia’s espionage and sabotage campaigns.
